Image Processing
Standard Product
Standard
images are produced with bitonal text and, if graphical
elements are present (illustrations, photographs, etc.)
they will be segmented within the TIFF in color or
grayscale.
Processing
includes automatic deskewing, despeckling, cropping, removal of specks
and other artifacts outside the textblock, centering,
automatic image segmentation and conversion of text to
bitonal. Manual image segmentation and deskewing may
also be needed.
Images are
delivered as uncompressed TIFFs at 300 dpi. Files of
text pages are small in size (<100K); files with
graphics are larger, depending upon the size and density
of the graphics.
OCR is
highly accurate when applied to these images to produce
fully-searchable PDFs, which are ideally suited for
online viewing. Non-searchable PDFs can also be
produced. Printing of reproductions from PDF also yields
excellent results.
Resolution
Options
Images may
optionally be produced at native resolution or at 400
dpi or 600 dpi. Multiple sets of output, produced at
different resolutions, may also be generated from the
same original captured images.
Other Options
Images may
be produced entirely in color or grayscale. Processing
includes automatic deskewing, despeckling and cropping; manual deskewing and
despeckling may also be done.
Images are
delivered as uncompressed TIFFs or JPEG at 300 dpi.
Files will be fairly large (1 MB to 15+ MB per page).
These images can be used to produce
fully-searchable PDFs, which would be suitable for
online viewing from a quality perspective; file size may
inhibit practicality. OCR can also be performed but
printing is not recommended for images produced in this
manner.
