Archival Clamshell Boxes

We treat a wide range of bound material including medieval manuscripts and early printed books, modern books, Bibles, scrapbooks and pamphlets. Conservation may include re-housing in custom-designed boxes and basic stabilization or full treatment with aqueous washing, deacidification, re-sewing and rebinding.

Clamshell boxes, phase boxes and other enclosures create a microenvironment for the book or object inside. The book is protected from light damage, abrasion, the effects of pollution. In addition, the microclimate acts as a buffer to fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

Boxes are titled either directly on the covering material or on attached labels. Labels can be laser-printed or stamped on paper or leather.
